Mount Baldy

Mount Baldy or Mount San Antonio has two trails one being longer than the other. The two trails both take you to the summit, but give you two wildly different experiences. The first trail (The ski hut trail) is steeper than the other measuring about 9 miles round trip. This trail has a small Ice Hut about halfway up the mountain. There you can eat outside on benches, and if it's open go inside. The Ice Hutt has many entities that can be used like bunk beds , but only members of the Sierra Club can open the Hutt and close the Ice Hut up. The second trial is called the Devil's backbone. Is about a 12 miles round trip, and has another lodge up the trail too. Mt Baldy is also a ski resort, meaning in the winter seasons if they get enough snow, you can ski on its designated trails. The Ski Lodge has a cafeteria, e.c.t This place however does not have overnight lodging. Look, don't get me wrong. Devils backbone is a good trail, but after you pass the ski lodge you have to walk down a fire trail. Now the fire trail is grueling, it takes a lot out of your feet and knees. In my opinion, you should skip that part of the hike and just take the Ski Hut trail down. Nevertheless, if you want the full experience, try it! Mount Baldy is a part of the California 6 pack and if you want to do those mountains this should be the third one you climb.

Pro Tip

Mount Baldy can be very dangerous especially when you’re on the devils back bone trail. If it gets too windy you can blow right off. So be careful.
